Nursing Laptop Requirements – Stay Connected in the BSN Program
As a BSN student at UW‑Eau Claire, you’ll rely on your laptop for classwork, simulations, online resources, and collaboration. To ensure smooth access to all course materials and software, all traditional BSN students must have an individual, wireless-enabled laptop with a webcam and microphone.
Note: Chromebooks, tablets, iPads, and Surface Pros are not compatible with required software.
Laptop Requirements
Windows Laptops
- Processor: Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 7
- Operating System: Windows 10 or 11
- Memory: 16 GB RAM or higher
- Storage: 256 GB SSD or better
- Network: 100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet & Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) or newer
- Webcam: Integrated or external
- HDMI: Required for campus projection systems (USB-C to HDMI adapter may be needed)
- Software: Microsoft Office 365
Mac Laptops
- Processor: Apple Silicon (M1) or Intel i5
- Operating System: macOS 12 – Monterey (macOS 11 – Big Sur acceptable)
- Memory: 8 GB minimum (16 GB recommended)
- Storage: 256 GB SSD or better
- Webcam: Built-in or external
- HDMI: USB-C to HDMI adapter required for campus projection systems
- Software: Microsoft Office 365
Microsoft Office 365
All UW‑Eau Claire nursing students have access to Office 365 at no additional cost. It includes:
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office applications
- File storage and access across multiple devices
- Use via web browser, mobile app, or desktop download (five free licenses available)
Tip: Installing Office 365 ensures you can open, edit, and submit assignments without any issues.
